The College Hill Study

In 1956, the Providence Preservation Society was founded by a group of concerned citizens in opposition to wide-scale demolition of historic structures within College Hill. PPS sought a solution to the loss of historic fabric. In 1957, the Society partnered with the City of Providence to create what would become the College Hill Study.

The panels featured in this exhibit are all featured in the Study. Next to each panel is a short description, and commentary from experts in preservation, architecture, planning, history, and beyond. Take a look at each, and add your own comments using the comment boxes in this app. They will be featured in the exhibit when it is on display at the Providence Public Library.

What do these panels say about Providence in 1959? What do they say about it now? Add your voice to the discussion!
